Baseball week is underway

The fun splashed off last Tuesday. The organizers of the 30th (anniversary) edition of Baseball Week Haarlem had invited sponsors and partners to a Kick-Off meeting at catering partner Villa Westend in the Velserbroek area. An update meeting what will happen this summer. The much-needed enthusiasm was there, as a fine turnout filled the organizing committee with great satisfaction.

Of course, chairman Guus van Dee reflected on the particularly successful 2018 edition. An edition that was made possible by a substantial financial contribution from the municipality of Haarlem that made a relaunch possible. Guus van Dee: ”Dear people: the flame is lit and we hope that of the summer a bonfire will burn. We are very much looking forward to it with all of us,” he told the filled room while delicious snacks were offered between business. He continued: “Edition 2018 was a great success. Everything worked perfectly together: the participants, sponsors who gave perfect support, the public, our partners, the fantastic volunteers and last but not least to top it all off: the beautiful weather. From day 1 the train ran perfectly along the track. Everyone infected with the baseball virus wanted to be there, at the most enjoyable sporting event in Haarlem. In all modesty, we dare say that. ‘The Week’ is of course more than just baseball. It also provides a platform for partners and sponsors to do business in a fun setting and get to know each other thoroughly.”

Van Dee concludes: ”For our anniversary edition, Taiwan, Japan, Germany and Cuba are our guests. We are still looking in the USA (College) for a sixth participant or perhaps in Mexico. Our national team can compete with quality teams in a few months. I see the tournament as a flywheel that brings passive and active interest together and thus strengthens each other. A sports baseball week that for many is the (baseball) highlight of the summer. You want to be there and not miss a thing. Oh yes, we would like to create a campground at the ice rink. The permit has already been applied for.”
