How is it now with… Marcel Joost

“How is Marcel Joost now?”; Right fielder with Amsterdam Pirates, Haarlem Nicols, Kinheim and the Dutch Team.
Fondest memory of Baseball Week:
“So. It’s been a long time. Just digging here. Surely the highlight is Baseball Week 1980. I hit four home runs in one day. One in the last at bat against the Sullivans and three in the evening game against Mitsubishi. They did sit on them all nicely haha. Furthermore, the conviviality. As a right fielder, I was literally next to the marquee and in between innings I was chatting with friends and supporters. And after the game, all of us into the marquee. Now that would really
can’t do anymore.”
Favorite player and coach:
“Haven’t actually. Of course there are players I like but I don’t do idols. I once started playing baseball because my father saw an ad in the newspaper in which RAP (now Amsterdam Pirates) was looking for kids. Seemed like fun. Hitting I taught myself and actually went purely by intuition. I just did my own thing even though the coach said something else. But I didn’t just do anything, had an idea when I got started. The interaction between the
batter and pitcher I like. A little logical thinking, knowing what ball to expect
and make your move at the right time. That’s all it is.”
Do you still do anything in baseball:
“I haven’t been to a ballpark in years but I still follow MLB. Baseball physically you can’t last your whole life so I’ve been playing golf fanatically for some time now. We became Dutch champions with our team from the Houtrak. Just give me a ball and a stick. Then the rest will be fine.”
