From July 12 through July 19, 2024, the national baseball team, Team Kingdom of the Netherlands, will participate in Baseball Week Haarlem. This event is traditionally held at Pim Mulier Stadium. There is something else important at stake besides excelling in front of the home crowd: regaining A status. For this, the Kingdom team must at least make it to the finals. The players lost their A status during the 2023 European Baseball Championships when the Czech Republic lost in the semifinals to eventual tournament winner Spain.
Tournament Director Peter Herkemij of Honkbalweek Haarlem is enthusiastic about the importance of a good result in Haarlem: “Besides the honor of being in the finals of the biggest baseball event in Europe, it is great for the players and the top sports program that so soon after dropping out, the opportunity to regain A-status arises again, with the support of all baseball fans in a full Pim Mulier Stadium!”
