Team Kingdom of the Netherlands won Baseball Week 2022 last Friday. In the final, Curaçao was defeated 6-1. Winning pitcher was Shairon Martis, who also received the Player of the Game award. He pitched the entire game and kept manager Hainley Statia’s Curaçao team in complete control.
The prize for the tournament win was not the only one the Kingdom team secured. The MVP Award (Roger Bernadina), Best Hitter (Juremi Profar) and Best Pitcher (Lars Huijer) also went to Team Kingdom. Rintaro Tsujimoto (Japan) received the Carl Angelo Award for Most Popular Player of the tournament.
For a moment, Johannes Gregorius (Curaçao) seemed to run away with the award for best hitter, but the veteran was three plate appearances short of qualifying for the award.
Earlier on Friday, Team USA defeated the team from Japan for the bronze medal 5-1. Cuba finished fifth, Italy sixth.
